I wasn't sure if we were supposed to blog or not, but I will do it anyway.

I thought the presentation was great. I loved it. I think it is so great that they are standing up for what they believe in, even though it could get them fired (which happened to some people). I love it when people are passionate about a change in a positive way. I remember learning about the IWW when I was in high school, it's really cool to see and hear how that union is making a difference in a big way. I remember when Mr. Kizzier asks the presenters why didn't they just quit their jobs and go to another job if they were so unhappy, and I completely agree with their respond. It is much bigger than job, it's about making a difference; not only for themselves but for all the people after them, and all the people who are involved in the IWW. They definitely inspired me to want to make a positive difference in the world. I want to leave a mark on society in a way that will make a difference for people.

Dance Performance

Overall i thought the performance was very entertaining. I know it took a lot of hard work from the dancers. I would have liked to see more pieces of the dance company.I loved watching Grand Pas Classique. Laura Villalobos had great technique and performance quality. As a dancer I tend to notice the technique of the dancers and performance quality of the dancer in depth.I enjoyed watching C1N9E8EL4A because it was something different to watch at a performance. My favorite oart of the movie was when the two girls were on top of the roof doing a modern combination. I would have liked it to have been longer because I was a little confused at the end as to what happened without reading the background in the program. There was very good editing of the dancers. I liked that you could see all the movement of the dancers and it was not chopped into pieces so that you could only see an arm moving or half the body.

CCBC Dance Festival

I must say that those talented dancers worked very hard to perform what they did today. I enjoyed the presentation for the most part but the only thing that kinda caught my eye was the fact that there were a few mistakes. I know that this isn't broadway but some things one can't help but mess up and thats cool with me. Don Quixote Pas De Deux was ok but I think that they young lady was a little shy and I don't fault her for that, she did her best. The Grand Pas Classique was very pretty to me. Both Laura and Joseph did a wonderful job of the ballet but Ms. Laura took the show to me. I loved her outfit. The C1N9E8EL4A was a very good movie but I was throwed off as of what happened in the end and how this other young lady and cinderella where dancing on the top floor of the building. That was the only thing that threw me off but other than that it was nice. The celebration song was kinda boring in the beginning so I thought nothing was going to happen after that but I was wrong, it became interesting towards the end. I commend them for working so hard for what they performed today. I really enjoyed the presentation today, it was a nice experience to witness.

I found the presentation to be very educational on Unions. i personally did not know much about Unions except that they work together and that you have to pay dues. I find it amazing that two people started this much conterversy.Watching the movie they presneted was great. I can not believe that that many people would attend a rally for the one guys first day back or that they would fight that hard for one person. The presentors really made me think about my job and my office surroundings.

it talks about how people hear and know about starbuck and how they wanted their voice to be heard because that really meant somthing to them. Also they do alot of occasion of the things they do by celebrating people in the past like martin luther kings action telling Starbucks that there not backing down and that it must honor Dr. King's Day on January 19th, 2009 with the same holiday premium it pays on five other federal holidays.

the starbucks employes started wearing buttoms to support what is going on which i feel will make a difference beacuse the people who come in to buy a drink will ask what is it and they are able to give info about what is going on and get more people to back them up. they are starting to lay people off because they are over priced nad they have other compaines like fast food places that are starting to sell the same thing but cheaper and taste the same which makes everyone want to go there instead of startbiucks. they are losing some stores with what is going on they should take a step back and rethink a new way of doing what they are doing.

I discovered various articles about the Star bucks union one of which was a altercation between a off duty barista and another manager from a different store. The altercation started when the barista was questioned by the other manager about her purpose in being in a union when star bucks offer is employees various benefits.This tied in with other cases of several star buck chains attempting to keep union members from meeting and have their meetings.

McGoddess

I loved the McGoddess performance.I thought I was going to come in there in listen to her experience with fast food, but it was much to my surprise amusing. she talked about how she was the only one of her sibling born in America. She explained to us when her family first came to America they wasn't suppose to eat meat but after their first experience to MacDonald's they loved it. Now her and her family eats at MacDonald's all the time. A funny part to me is when she was imitating her father. i also think its funny how her family changed their ways of not eating meat because of MacDonald's.

McGoddess: Big Macs, Karma, and The American Meal

Going into the comedy performance, I just thought it was going to be a comedian telling jokes about fast food. However, once the show started, I really started to get into it. I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. I thought she was funny, and I laughed throughout the whole thing. Not only that, but she was very relaxed, and it made the whole atmosphere of the room very comfortable. I was also able to relate to a lot of things she said. For example, she was born in America but was raised with Indian customs; and I was born in America, and was raised with Nigerian customs. For me growing up with Nigerian parents it was very difficult. Like the performer said, "We were not your typically American family", and nor was I. Therefore, as she began to explain the differences in opinions between her parents, and the confusion she went through growing up, I really felt connected in a way to her, because I went through the same things.
One part that I especially liked was when she talked about her father trying to pick up on the slang words she used. My father does the same thing, and it never sounds right!
Overall, I admire her for sharing with us her part of her life story. Doing that put her in a vulnerable position, and made it personal. I think that is why a lot of people enjoyed it. It wasn't ordinary. It was something fresh, and new. It is definitely something I will remember.

McGoddess Comendy performance

This performance was not what I expected it to be, it was better. Just as many others around me, I thought that it was only going to have a few somewhat funny spoofs within the performance but little did I know that it was going to actually be pretty amusing. The comedian, VG, made her performance portray her family, their religion, and the background history of her life. She talked about how she has two sisters yet she was the only one born in America. It was both interesting and intriguing to come to find out that it is of their religion to not eat beef but ironically her dad loved the delicious burgers from the ulimate fast food joint, Mickey Dee's --McDonalds and her mother is hooked to McDonalds along with the many other "Mac-aholics" in this world. She told us that her mother would use the excuse that McDonald's meat was not cow so it did not go against their religion because she believes it to be bull. She explained that she had many pressures throughout her life from her parents to excel and succeed in her education which put alot of stress on her because she did not want to do exactly what her dad thought she should. For example, when she talked about the end of kindergarten and how her dad say to 'focus on calculus. However, her stories were not only funny and entertaining but some were touching as well. She discussed her fathers passing and the superstitions of her religion like how her father died before midnight. The way she described it was that the family found some sort of peace or serenity from her fathers passing. I felt as if I could relate to her in many ways and I enjoyed this experience. The experience of the first comedic performance that I have ever been to kept me laughing and it was more fun than I thought it was goind to be.

McGoddess Performance

I thought that this performance was going to be all about how McDonalds affected her life, well I got that and some more. She talked about her family and how when they came to America they went to McDonald's almost all the time. She said that McDonalds was her second home most of the time. She talked about her family and how they grew up here in America and how they were not allowed to eat beef. After having McDonalds' it seems like their religon went out the door. I love the parts when she would impersonate her father. I thought that was hilarious. I really thought that this experience of seeing this performance was worth the while. I laughed almost the entire time from her impersonations alone. I am glad I got to see her in her act.

Comedy Show

I had expected the performance to only have a few funny spots in it, but it was actually very entertaining; I couldnt imagine living in a family with a superstitous mother, a born again christian  and athiest for sisters, and a workaholic father who loves McDonalds, and all while we're all supposed to be Hindu. The main things I thought were the funniest were when she'd talk with an Indian accent, and especially when she talk about things her father did to her, like when he told her he was taking her to Toys R' Us when instead he took her to school.

Comedy Performance

The performance was entertaining. It was based on her family, their religion and their background. It was very truthful and funny. VG the comedian is an American Indian whose parent moved from India to America in their 30’s. She has two sisters and she is the last in the family and the only one born in America. She said that their Indian religion forbid them to eat beef, but was surprise because her father favorite meal in America was burger from McDonald’s. She said that her father later admits that he wasn’t into the religion that was the reason why he started eating beef when he came to America but her mother who is so into her religion didn’t eat beef rather she ate French fries. She explains that her mother’s eating habit have changed that she is now a mac-aholic. She also points out that her father believed in Education and he has different degrees but she on the other hand hates school. She said that she remembers crying after her first day in kindergarten and she refuse to go back but her father said ‘Focus on Calculus’. Finally, she told a story on how her father passed away on 14th April 2007. She explains that her father was on life support and the family was trying to remove him from it on 14th because her father wouldn’t love to live like that, but her mother being superstitious doesn’t want that day because it was Hindu’s new year and that might bring bad luck. So the family decided that they are going to do it at the midnight but her father being whom who is passed before midnight meaning that he doesn’t believe in superstitious things. I think VG is a good and funny person that believes in herself and also love her family and l know that she will make it in future.

Comedy performance

I liked the performance a lot and I found it very entertaining. The comedian's whole performance was based on her family life and how she was the only daughter born in America and was confused on what religion she believed in. She said that her mother later explained to her daughters that her father was set on doing two things when first coming to America. First, he got the family an apartment and second, he took the family to McDonalds. VG said that her mother was surprised in why her father wanted to eat so many big macs when their family was supposed to be religiously vegetarian. VG's father did not let his wife know until they arrived in America that he tricked her and he did not really 'believe' in any God or gods. However later, VG says her mother uses the excuse that their culture does not allow believers to eat cow, and McDonalds uses bull. For the first six months her mother only ate french fries from McDonalds and then worked her way into being a big mac-aholic. VG said that every year her family would visit India and on the way they would stop at many different countries. One of the only statements that her father had to make sure he knew in different languages was "Where is McDonalds?". She goes on to explain that her father was always tricking her because she was his baby and also probably because she was the only daughter born in America. The first day VG attended kindergarten, she was woken up by her father who said that he was taking her to Toys r Us and buying her the Malibu Barbie. Instead, they went to kindergarten and at the end of the school day VG refused to go back but her father said 'Focus on Calculus'. She continues talking about her father as a very interesting, smart man. She says that the only thing the man believed in was education and he did have a lot of education. He was completely the opposite of her mother who was very superstitious and he believed that he had nine lives just like a cat and his family believed he did too because of his health history. However, her mother was very superstitious and she knew all of the 'good and bad days' of the Hindu calendar and made her schedule around that calendar. VG told a story that her mother believed in which was that her cousin had a baby with the head of a cat for the reason that when she was pregnant she kicked a cat. So when her husband was close to dying on the Indian New Year, the family wanted to wait until midnight. However her father made his last statement that he was not superstitous by passing before midnight came. I think that VG and her family came to peace at his passing and they knew he went to be in a better place.
