Rich Comben set out to combine both personal experience and reseach about the toothbrush mustache when he wrote "Becoming Adolf". The dispostion and attitudes Rich received when wearing his mustache in this fashion showed the disdain that many still held for Hitler. This all showed that dispite the fact that the toothbrush mustache existed befor Hitler that this will now forever be remebered as a link to the decesed Nazi leader. People also viewed Rich in such a way becuase of this mustache. Rich also learend that despite the fact that it was a mustache style that because it was embraced by such a tyrinical person that it would forever remain a symbol of something that people hated and fear.
