Tripp Lake

Summary: Tripp Lake is about a nine year old girl who had gone to camp for the summer. She had felt bad about going because she felt that she shouldnt go and leave her mother. Her mother was in a state of depression because she wanted more out of her life other than being a simple mother and the wife of a muffin man. She wanted her daughter to do more in her life than she did. The little girl doesn't really do anything at camp because she's afraid, until she gets into riding horses.

In the quote "Her face a mixture.." I believe its reffering to her being afraid that she's actually about to jump but also excited that she's finally going to do it after failing so many times.

In the second quote, I think its referring to the girl not living in her mother's shadow anymore and feeling sorry about doing something with her life when her mother didnt.
